As a homebuyer watches the progress of their new-construction home being built, they typically focus on what they can see一pouring the foundation, raising the framing, installing drywall, placing fixtures, painting the walls and more. Sarah joined Lackland Holdings, Riverside Homebuilders’ real estate development partner, after working as a real estate attorney at a large law firm in downtown Fort Worth. 

“My legal background is in real estate,” Sarah said. “When you work for a law firm you can end up doing the same thing for many different clients, your days can get pretty repetitive and similar.” 

So when the opportunity arose for Sarah to join Riverside Homebuilders’ in-house legal team, she was excited for a new experience in the world of real estate law. 

“I started law school assuming I would end up in the courtroom, but soon realized it was not for me,” she said. “My dad was in property management and my mom is an attorney, so real estate law seemed a natural fit.” 

As an attorney for Riverside Homebuilders, among other things, Sarah helps the team acquire new homesites through a process called lot takedowns. She also works on vendor agreements and other legal matters that may arise for Riverside Homebuilders. Sarah loves that no two days look the same. 

“My job is different every day一it keeps me on my toes, keeps me sharp,” she said. “I’ve been practicing real estate law for over 10 years, but Riverside is innovative and always wanting to try something new, so I’m challenged to figure out how to make it work.”  

Riverside Homebuilders has nearly a decade of experience building sought-after communities and beautiful, high-quality homes throughout Dallas-Fort Worth and the surrounding towns. “After years of working in private practice with other builders, I can definitely tell that customer service is a big part of Riverside’s culture and what’s important to the company,” said Sarah. “I’ll often present Riverside’s management with potential solutions to issues and leadership always elects to ‘do the right thing’ even if it’s something it may not be legally obligated to do.” 

Sarah also mentioned that working with great people, both at Lackland Holdings and Riverside Homebuilders, is just another contributing factor to why she enjoys her role as Riverside’s attorney.
