Our Ultimate Guide to Prepare Your Home for Summer
The temperatures are rising and the sun is shining here in the DFW area, and we’re quickly entering the hot season of summer. Now’s the perfect time to start thinking about all of your at-home tasks and chores that you aim to have accomplished by the time summer makes its appearance—and you may be wondering where to start, what to accomplish and how to tackle your tasks. At Riverside Homebuilders, we’re here to help you optimize your summer checklist in a swift, timely manner—so continue reading to find our ultimate guide for preparing your home for the summer, both inside and out.
Update the interior
Although you may have done an extensive spring cleaning inside of your home this year, there are still a few things that you can do to ensure that your home is extra prepped and ready for the summertime. A great place to start on your home interior endeavors is to examine your appliances and functionalities—including your indoor hoses, your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, your washing machine, and air conditioner. Check for any wear and tear on your essential features, see if any filters or parts need to be replaced, and ensure that everything is running properly for precautionary purposes during the Texas heat. Additionally, it’s a good idea to reverse the direction of your ceiling fan for the summer so that it spins counter-clockwise. This pushes the air straight down, creating a nice breeze. Get rid of clutter in your garage, clear out your fridge and pantry, clean your garbage disposal using hot water and dish soap, then give your baseboards and surfaces a good wipe-down for your home to feel extra fresh and clean for the fastly-approaching summer heat.
To take your interior to the next level during the warmer months, consider incorporating summertime-inspired home decor to bring a light, airy atmosphere into your home. Add yellow, orange, blue, pink and green accents for a pop of color—and spruce up your space by bringing the outside in through colorful house plants and flowers. Summer is as much a state of mind as it is a season—and adding in bright, fun home decor is a great way to embrace all of its benefits.
Focus on your landscape
After your indoor appliances and systems have been inspected and repaired as needed, the next part of the summer home improvement checklist concerns the outside of your home. Check out our previous blog on how to prepare your yard for the warmer seasons to kick off your outdoor tasks, and ensure that your landscape is extra ready for summer by taking a few more measures. Power wash your driveway and sidewalks by renting a power washer from your local home improvement store, and check for any cracks and weeds before you begin washing away all the buildup, dirt, mold and grime that has accumulated over the past year. Wash your windows with window cleaner, and clean off your window screens with hot, soapy water for a new and improved look. Next, it’s important to clear out your gutters and downspouts to protect your home’s exterior from water damage during the summer, especially after the storms and rainfall earlier this spring. Use a ladder and clean out your gutters by hand, or use a garden hose, a leaf blower or the power washer used on the driveway for a quick and effective method.
Lastly, for the ultimate summer landscape—the next step is to beautify your yard. Plant colorful, heat-tolerant plants around your Riverside home to add even more to the scenic value—whether it’s impatiens, marigolds, petunias and more. Add outdoor furniture to your patio and around your fire pit to create a comfortable space that the whole family will love to spend time in, and don’t forget to heat up your grill and give it a good scrub to make sure it’s ready for hamburger and hotdog season.
Enjoy the summer in your Riverside home
Above all, it’s essential to enjoy your summer with your family and loved ones in your Riverside home. Whether it’s cleaning out gutters, planting flowers or revamping your home decor—we know that you’ll be able to relax and unwind in the warm Texas weather to the fullest extent in any of our breathtaking communities.
