In the heart of Weatherford, Texas, the Weatherford Parker County Animal Shelter (WPCAS) is a haven for animals in need. With a mission centered on strengthening the bond between individuals and their furry companions, the WPCAS is committed to providing exceptional care and finding loving homes for every animal that comes through its doors. 

Making a difference—one adoption at a time

The partnership between our team at Riverside Homebuilders and the WPCAS began out of a simple desire to help the shelter’s cause in any way that we could, and we’re incredibly proud to be able to support their work and strive to make a positive impact on the lives of countless animals—ensuring they receive the love, care and compassion they deserve. 

“We plan to use the funds to promote our urgent dogs and purchase additional supplies,” said Emily Williams, Outreach and Engagement Officer. “We will use these supplies to help with animal enrichment, advertising our adoptable animals to reach a wider audience and acquiring more equipment for our offsite adoption events and our shelter to keep our animals happy and healthy while in our care.”

Every contribution plays a vital role in ensuring the well-being of shelter animals, and one such resident whose life has been transformed by the dedication of shelter staff and volunteers is Skippy, a spirited Husky mix. Initially timid and unsocialized, Skippy has truly blossomed under the nurturing care provided by the shelter. 

“He is a favorite, and it’s through donated items, and volunteers donating their time that we have been able to help Skippy become a well-adjusted and adoptable dog,” Emily said. “We are hoping to be able to share Skippy’s happy adoption story soon. Maybe you could be his forever family!”

The adoption process at the WPCAS is designed to facilitate the perfect match between animals and their prospective families, and with adoption specials sponsored by our team at Riverside Homebuilders, the shelter aims to make the adoption experience even more accessible and rewarding for families eager to welcome a new furry member into their homes. 

Beyond adoptions, though, the WPCAS hosts various events and initiatives to engage the community and garner support for its mission. Within their “Whisker Wednesday'' program, they spay and neuter, vaccinate and ear notch up to 100 community cats at no cost on the last Wednesday of every month, and donations are always appreciated to help keep this program running. With numerous other ways for individuals to get involved, anyone in the community has the ability to make a meaningful impact on the lives of shelter animals.

“Whether you are donating supplies, sponsoring an adoption or simply spreading the word about our shelter, your support means everything to us,” Emily said. “Together, we are making a difference and changing the lives of animals one paw at a time. Thank you for all that you do!”
