Although she’s undoubtedly a natural in her role, Kellie's journey has been marked by unexpected twists and uncharted paths. Originally aspiring to be in the healthcare field, fate led her to the dynamic world of homebuilding with Riverside Homebuilders. 

“I originally wanted to be a nurse, so I honestly never expected to be in the homebuilding industry,” Kellie explains. “I started working with one of our trade partners, Fox Energy Specialists, and then moved to a national homebuilder where I gained most of my experience in Purchasing. I was able to complete my bachelor’s and master’s degrees during that time, and in 2021, I got the opportunity to join the Riverside Homebuilders team as the Director of Purchasing. I just celebrated two years with Riverside in August!”

In her vital position, Kellie takes on a multifaceted role that impacts the core of Riverside's operations—and her undeniable passion and skills are cornerstones of our success.

“As the Director of Purchasing, I oversee the Purchasing, Estimating, Design and Plan teams—together, we ensure that all the information needed for the Construction team to build is available,” says Kellie. “That can mean interacting with trade partners, creating relationships with manufacturers or helping solve a delay in the field. It changes daily and there is always a new challenge to tackle, which is one of the reasons I love this role.”

A legacy of excellence: Kellie’s advice

As a role model for young professionals in the homebuilding sector, Kellie's journey and achievements hold valuable lessons. Her advice for those aspiring to similar success is simple: “Always ask to be included in any new opportunities, meetings or events that you can. You never know when an opportunity might become available, so having the experience and connections will benefit you so much. Find a mentor who can help you grow and learn—I have been very fortunate to have amazing mentors in my career. When I started in the industry, I had no experience, so having mentors to learn from and go to when I’ve struggled has been invaluable. I am very passionate about mentorship within the industry, and I will always be thankful for the people who have guided me along the way!”

“I’ve recently gained a love for traveling. I’m always trying to take advantage of long weekends to visit new places and go on trips! Thankfully, we have a lot of trust within our teams to ensure the job is still done, even if someone is out of the office,” Kellie explains. “I am lucky to be able to lean on them when things get hectic, and I’m so glad I found a passion in Purchasing with such a fantastic company. I am always happy to connect with others in the field to be a resource!”
