Cozy, Classy, and Chic: Fireplace Design Ideas
A fireplace is the focal point of a room, even when the flames aren’t flickering. The three elements of the fireplace surround, mantel, and hearth can be combined in countless ways to achieve the look you want. Riverside Homebuilders customizes this essential detail for our homebuyers. We have fireplace design ideas that are cozy, classy, and chic!
Cozy charm
A home with rustic style, like farmhouse or country cottage, is well-suited for a fireplace that carries on the homespun look. A brick or stone fireplace brings in the natural element with the bonus of earthy color and texture. A stacked stone surround can be shaped in a variety of ways—from the randomness of fieldstone to the horizontal lines, from smooth to rugged, and with large stones, small stones, or a blend of sizes. Manufactured stone veneers offer a broad array of choices!
Accent the stone surround with an earthy hearth. Keep with the stone theme, using a natural stone tile, or accent with brick.
The mantel is the finishing touch of a fireplace, that place you love to decorate from season to season. A cedar beam continues the rustic style. Use the same color stain as other woods in your home to blend the mantel with your decor.
Classic elegance
For more traditional decor, a brick surround—natural or painted—or marble tile complements your style. Polished white marble framed with white molding works well to contrast the color on your walls. You can also incorporate decorative tile or molding to enhance this focal point. Play with the balance of the width of the stonework and the molding to find the combination that works for you.
Continuing the stone from the surround to the hearth maintains the simple elegance. However, with a traditional design, you can choose to eliminate the hearth and just bring your room’s flooring to the edge for seamless flow.
The mantel can be as decorative or simple as you like. Add detail, depth, and design that frames your surround like a piece of artwork…because, in this space, it is.
Chic style
When you want a modern look in your home, use your fireplace design to add a striking accent in the room. Contemporary fireplace surrounds blend into the wall. Use a matte or gloss finish, contrasting color, or smooth stone, glass, or metal. The surround can extend from floor to ceiling, adding height, or use a horizontal orientation.
The modern fireplace design is about simplicity, so you may forego the hearth and mantel to maintain the sleekness. But a simple mantel can nicely “float” above the fireplace as a straight line to define this interior accent.
