Make the Most of Your Backyard for Summer Time

Safety, privacy and fun are all qualities of a well-designed outdoor living space. And with limited options for entertainment this summer, there has never been a better time to create your backyard oasis in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Part of Riverside Homebuilders’ quest for quality and comfort includes spacious lots with versatile acreage that increase the value of each new home we build. We see a big yard as one of the biggest advantages to moving outside the metro, especially for young families or ones looking for a little distance from city life.

Aside from the standard patio, how will you personalize this new asset at your home?

Find your light (and shade)

Heat is the obvious enemy of outdoor gatherings because no one wants to swelter while they sip a cool cocktail. So, for year-round entertaining, work with the natural shady spots in your yard to avoid the Texas sun. Or, create your own with some clever landscaping.

You may also want to plan ahead for lingering late-night guests with built-in lighting like a central fire pit, a collection of solar-powered lights or a line of festive tiki torches. Bonus points if they also fight off mosquitos and other pests with citronella.

Find comfortable seating to place within your new lighting design and make sure everyone has a place to set a plate or a drink down that’s out of the reach of running kids or furry family members. A lit walking path is a good plan too for quick trips back inside or end-of-the-evening cleanup.

Get cooking

Upgrade your summer cookouts with a patio that is optimized for entertaining by running cable lines and a gas line outside. This sets you up for easy year-round excitement whether it’s football season or a cool Fall evening with friends and family.

Several Riverside Homebuilders floor plans provide a sliding door from the kitchen making for convenient preparation with a short path of travel from your everyday appliances like the refrigerator and stove. Of course, this does not limit you from adding extra storage for food or beverages outside, but it should help you prioritize.

Run off some energy

The kids are probably getting cooped up without their normal playdates and park time. And there is no better way to ensure a safe and secure Summer adventure than keeping them in your own backyard. Plus, this gives them a reason to get invested in a family project and maybe make for an easier adjustment to a new home too.

Start with swings and a slide. A sandbox is an easy addition too under a backyard playset. Think about a volleyball net or other backyard games too. Really anything that gets their imagination going and gives the adults some time to unwind.

Keep toys and games easy to find and out of the way with storage closer to the house. This will make it easy to switch activities throughout the afternoon and keep them out of the way when you go out to mow.
