Saginaw High School in Fort Worth Has Earned Bragging Rights
When Riverside Homebuilders searches for the right location to develop a new community in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the quality of the local schools is one of the most important features. We chose an area of Fort Worth for Las Ventanas, confident that students would have an exceptional educational experience. Saginaw High School in Fort Worth has earned bragging rights that prove we chose wisely.
NBCDFW, the local NBC affiliate, presents a weekly feature, “Brag About Your School”, that looks at what’s happening in DFW’s schools. Recently, reporter Wayne Carter highlighted the achievements of the teachers and students at Saginaw High School.
The curriculum reflects what’s happening in the world today, giving teenagers real-world relevance and helping to better prepare students for what’s ahead. Carter recently highlighted a class that guides students from the high school academics to college coursework. English teacher Sara Mullins presents an Advanced Placement Seminar, mostly to high school seniors. Over the course of the semester, her students work in teams to conduct in-depth research on compelling subjects, like the ethical decisions with genetics and the use of fossil fuels. Ashley Gonzales chooses to explore the link between social media and terrorism.
"Social media actually has a tendency to divide society," Ashley shared. "What we don't see in the dark Twitter and dark Facebook is there are actually these terrorist groups. They're using social media to insight terror."
While learning about this topic, students also gain valuable insight into how to do research. Sara teaches them how to write essays, present their material, and conduct authoritative research.
“They learn to be critical of the information they find online. They set deadlines for themselves. They are responsible to each other.”
The lessons include approaching information with an open mind, identifying and confronting their own biases. They learn to use a critical eye when viewing content that’s posted online.
SIerra Kirkwood is another student who has benefitted from what she has learned in the AP Seminar,
“I feel really prepared for research in the future. I’ve learned how to write essays better than I have before. I’ve learned how to present, which I used to be really bad at, and how to do research on stuff that’s really important and get it from good sources.”
Preparedness is a critical goal for today’s high schools, and we’re proud of Saginaw High School for providing a unique approach to learning. As part of the Fort Worth ISD, this is just one example of the outside-the-box thinking that our teachers are using to deliver a more relevant education.

We recently met with Riverside Homebuilders. The model homes we were shown were absolutely gorgeous, and the communities were beautiful with many options on placement for a new home. There are innumerable options for building styles and upgrades if desired. The staff we met with were professional and spent most of the day with us answering questions and offering suggestions. I can’t recommend the Riverside Homebuilders enough for a wonderful experience!
